Sharing is caring!

Last week in Washington DC Safe Kids Georgia staff and coalition leaders attended the Child Injury Prevention Convention, or PREVCON hosted by Safe Kids Worldwide. Also in attendance were Safe Kids coalition members from 45 states and Network members from 24 countries around the world.

It was especially an honor to see First Lady Sandra Deal presented with the Champion for Child Safety Award. Mrs. Deal works tirelessly on behalf of Georgia’s children as the Chair of the Governor’s Office for Children and Family and the Georgia Children’s Cabinet. She has visited more than 500 schools throughout Georgia as part of her “Read Across Georgia” tour. And this year Safe Kids Georgia was delighted to partner with the First Lady and DECAL to educate Georgians on the dangers of hyperthermia. She and Governor Deal have led efforts in Georgia to increase awareness of the dangers of leaving children alone in a car with the “Look Again” program. So far this year, there have been no deaths from hyperthermia in the state of Georgia.

Please join us in congratulating First Lady Sandra Deal!

The Champion for Child Safety Award was created in 2013 and was awarded to Dr. James Andrews for his pioneering work on sports safety and to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz for her relentless work in Congress to make kids safer.
