Sharing is caring!

This month we are delighted to share some exciting happenings provided by Erin Green, Coalition Coordinator of Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County, which is led by Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

One of the programs we offer in Hall County provides children with a life jacket to use for the day through our Life Jacket Loaner Stations. We have them set up in five different beaches on Lake Lanier and each contains 8-10 life jackets in a variety of sizes for children to enjoy and return to the station at the end of the day. The station also serves as a visual reminder to wear a life jacket while swimming and playing in open water.

These Life Jacket Loaner Stations would not exist without our volunteers! Christine Cave and Chris Robinson, with Hall County Parks and Leisure, worked to rebuild, repaint, and restock two of the stations with our Safe Kids life jackets this summer. Because of position shifts and developments, these stations were not maintained over the past few years. Chris recently began working with Christine at Hall County Parks and Leisure and together they repaired these stations and we were able to get them in working order by the Fourth of July holiday. These stations were actually Chris’s daughter, Rebecca’s idea for a Girl Scout project 8 years ago. In fact, Rebecca won a Gold Award for her idea and design in 2010. Our volunteers at U.S Army Corps of Engineers have also worked diligently over the years to maintain the other three stations and keep them stocked with our Safe Kids life jackets as well.

Not only do the Life Jacket Loaner Stations save lives, but because of the refurbishing of the two stations this summer, we gained Christine Cave our newest coalition member. Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County is very excited about this new relationship and collaborative partnership between Hall County Parks and Leisure.
